Process – custom designed yearbooks

🎉 Congratulations on helping lead your 2024 Yearbook project

📞  Please call Rockstar on 1300 782 901 for assistance

Stage 1 – Design Brief

Design which excites and connects

In a digital world, a printed yearbook truly captures the attention and imagination of your school community. Through design, we have an opportunity to excite and connect.

A design brief collates the goals, scope and strategy for your yearbook. Rockstar will follow this to develop design concepts.

Consider these approaches for your design brief:

  • Replacing the success of prior years
  • Evolving the atmosphere through selected features
  • Shaking it up with a fresh theme or feel

If available, share your school’s brand identity and guide, and offer your ideas about colour, composition, and typography.

Stage 2 – Draft a Table of Contents

Plan-out all content features

  1. List all content that is to appear in the yearbook
  2. Assign a page number for each section
  3. Share responsibility for each section with others

As the project matures, it is normal for your table of contents to evolve. Keep updating as you go!

Tip: As a starting point, follow last year’s edition

Stage 3 – Approve Concepts

Review yearbook design concepts

A ‘concept’ is a visual preview of the creative ideas and design execution.

Rockstar will share a PDF presentation for your review and feedback.

After yearbook content is all collected, Rockstar will layout and compose the yearbook to follow your approved concept.

Stage 4 – Collect Content

Collect → Organise in Google Drive / OneDrive

You will likely receive yearbook content by email or shared documents. Establish a master yearbook folder to collate.

  1. Review content received for correct spelling, grammar, and appropriateness.
  2. Organise content inside the master yearbook folder. Name content sub-folders by their page number, listed on the Table of Contents.
  3. Share access to the master yearbook folder with Rockstar’s accounts: Google Drive:  [email protected] OneDrive:  [email protected]

Tip: Set an early content submission deadline 📆, and share this frequently with everyone.

Stage 5 – Formalise Content

Final check – “it’s ready to design!”

After all content has been organised into folders, grant permission for Rockstar’s Design team to begin the design.

The design process takes time, and Rockstar will begin after assurance is shared about completeness and accuracy.

Stage 6 – Review Drafts

Review the Drafts 👀

When reviewing, please ensure all feedback is consolidated together from all committee members including teachers and school Principal.

Mark-up changes required in Adobe Acrobat
  1. Download the PDF, and open in Adobe Acrobat. View pages as spreads.
  2. Mark-up all changes required by using the Comment tools in Acrobat – Text and Sticky notes. Learn more about Comments tools which will significantly save you time.
  3. Save the PDF marked up, and share via a Google Drive / OneDrive subfolder.
  4. Alternatively, compile one single consolidated list of changes in only one document – no multiple lists
Reviewing Student Profiles

Inclusiveness is critical, please ensure:

  1. All students are included
  2. All profile photos match each student name
  3. Student names are spelt correctly
  4. Students are presented in correct order

To keep your project on-track, please stick to review deadlines. More time may or may not be available – please check with Rockstar as soon as required.
