Hi Tomaj,

Thanks for your thoughts. I see where you are coming from, and in some instances you probably would be better off customising your resume for each job.

It of course depends on the preferences of the employer - and the actual position.

I'd like to think that employers look to employ people - not robots. By listing the full breadth of your skills, showing the true measure of yourself, and not just a convenient snapshot, you make yourself more attractive as an all-rounder.

But you're right, employers may not be looking for an all-rounder for open positions - perhaps just someone who is extremely focussed.

By cutting out your breadth in your resume, you're taking a big gamble on what you think the potential employer wants to see. Who's to say that they didn't want someone with bartending skills - it shows that they're somewhat social right? - and they have/have had "a life".

I think the key in your resume is to focus and enhance your strengths - while always keeping the sprinkling of your breadth.

So you're right - you would have to customise your resume - and you've changed my mind :)

"Why is your resume file name “resume_rockstar_v3.doc“? Do you create a unique resume for each potential employer? Why?"

I didn't apply (regretted it later hence why I'm here now) but I just thought I'd respond to this.

Often we are very talented individuals with a diverse background of job experiences, interests and educations. We therefore have to summarise what we do for individual employers so that the information they read is relevant to them specifically. For example, for this job position, do you really care if I have my RSA and RCG? Doubt it. Therefore if I were to apply I would tailor my resume and remove those details for you. If you were a cocktail bar however you would, but it wouldn't interest you much that I've done web design since I was 8 so therefore I would cut that out in that instance.

Hope that helps for the future so you can avoid paranoia :)

Good luck with your resume sifting and I hope you guys find a good candidate!
