Where will you be in 10 years time?

Ahh… such a common student profile question for Year 12 Yearbooks. But have you actually ever thought about following up whether these hopes, predictions, (or jokes) actually became true?

I began thinking about it last night. It would be such an interesting social experiment to follow it up. Did the trendy kids really become supermodels? Did the geeks go on to become CSIRO scientists? How do people change after high school?

Last night I was out with a fellow high school Year 12, 1998 graduate. I found it quite interesting that my former grade has become quite incestous. As in, many many former students within the grade have ended up getting together. I guess this phenomenon is quite common in small towns, but this is Sydney! But then again, it is the Northern Beaches…lolz…

The really interesting thing with my grade getting together is that the couples weren’t from the same groups. As in, it would have been nearly impossible to predict that they would end up being a couple, at Year 12 graduation. Some of the coupling is radically different, and something you would not expect for who they were as Year 12 students.

I guess it just goes to show that things change. People completely change… because they do. People grow and new, often unexpected relationships can form.

Perhaps the moral of this little story is to not judge your future too firmly. 10 years is a long time!

As for my “10 years time” answer… I certainly didn’t write down “helping people answer this damn question“!
