Long live the Polaroid
The most popular yearbook style ever?
….it’s the evergreen POLAROID!.
Each year our Creative Services team get asked to design lots of yearbooks. Time for an amazing fact. These days 9 times out of 10, our client (maybe even YOU) will ask for a polaroid frame around photos.
In all fairness though, it is a nice effect. It puts photos in context, creating a casual relaxed and nostalgic feeling that is absolutely perfect for yearbooks.
Polaroids in yearbooks have become very popular since 2005. It is quite funny though, the actual Polaroid Corporation went bankrupt in 2001.
Some tips for using Polaroids in your yearbook design:
- Consider using a cursive script (handwriting) font as the caption
- Captions should be short, 3 to 4 words for maximum effect
- Contrast Polaroids against a feint lined paper background
Going to make a BOLD prediction now… the Polaroid style will go out of fashion in 2009/2010. Like many design fashions and cliches, things come and go. The problem with yearbook fashions is that the yearly cycle means everything goes so slow!
