IKEA

This month we’ve been slowly moving our design studio from Frenchs Forest to North Sydney.

something like this...

Moving has been one hell of an adventure. If you’ve ever moved house before, you’ll know what I mean. There’s just so much to do. For us, the main problem hasn’t been getting moving our huge yearbook library:

like… thousands of these bundles
… like thousands of these bundles

or getting them up 2 flights of stairs..

2 flights!
gah my feet hurt

The problem has been this beast!….

IKEA

We made several trips to IKEA to get new tables, chairs and bookshelves. Hmmmm where do I start…

  • Of the four tables, 1 only had 3 legs, 1 had a huge scratch, 1 had a leg which wouldn’t screw the right way, and 1 was actually ok!
  • Of the chairs, 1 was already dirty, and another had screw holes which didn’t align to the frame!
  • The bookshelves are the same model, but one is taller than the other!… WTF?!!!?!!1

Of course we could take it back to refund, but of course, refund = more sales. The store is so huge and so tempting, that every time you refund, you end up buying even more stuff!

Yes it is our fault for being tempted, but IKEA does make pretty cool stuff. If only they weren’t so dodgy and pretty, so you wouldn’t be tempted to buy even more when you refunded the dodgy ones!

The studio is however coming along nicely. Here’s the planned work area…

We’ll probably get some beanbags and a couch to make it more comfortable.

Let’s hope this is finished soon so Nathan can have his dinner in peace!

Quickie

A nice story involving a Chinese Tattoos prank.

oh that’s absolutely beautiful

Our Creative Services team love typography. Typography is the art of designing publications using type – more commonly known as fonts.

Effective use of typography can singlehandedly determine the ‘attractiveness’ of your yearbook. Common fonts such as Times New Roman or Arial are exactly that… common. These days, whenever a reader sees Times New Roman or Arial, they’re going to subconsciously attribute your publication as being well….

That being said however, don’t go out and use novelty party fonts, or Comic Sans.

To get the good stuff, you need to spend money and buy legal licenses. Every now and then then we come an absolute gem. Take for example

Oh wow.

Without fail, I’ve been admiring this beauty every day for the past few days. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before she’s mine… It’s called Radio. Check it out.

This made me LOL…
